Barclays say Thank You to Botswana football fans as Marcel Desailly joins the Barclays Premier League Trophy in Gaborone Botswana, Gaborone: Barclays Bank of Botswana (BBB) will this week – 21-22 November 2013 - give football fans in Gaborone the chance to meet former Chelsea superstar Marcel Desailly as he visits the Botswana capital alongside the Barclays Premier League Trophy.
Desailly, together with the famous trophy, will arrive in Gaborone on Thursday (November 21) as part of the Barclays Premier League Trophy Tour to celebrate Premier League title sponsor Barclays new Thank You campaign.
This season Barclays is saying thank you to all the dedicated football fans across Africa for their support in making the Barclays Premier League what it is and Desailly’s visit is the first leg of a three year Barclays Premier League Trophy Tour during which the trophy will visit the Middle East, Asia, North America and Africa.
The tour will offer an opportunity for the many fans around the globe that may never get the chance to attend Barclays Premier League football in England, to get up close and have a behind the scenes experience of the teams and players they follow so passionately.
Marcel along with the trophy arrive in Gaborone on Thursday evening and will be available for Barclays customers and Batswana at large to interact and engage with. The trophy and Marcel will be at Game City mall on Friday, while the trophy will be available Airport Junction on Saturday morning, to afford the public a chance to view, take pictures and engage with Marcel and the trophy.
Commenting on the tour, Head of Marketing and Communications at BBB, Ms. Rachel Mushaike said: “This season Barclays is thanking fans across the world, including here in Botswana, that make the Barclays Premier League what it is and this unique interactive experience will allow us to give something back to the fans and our loyal customers.
"We are proud and excited to be hosting a big football name such as Marcel in Botswana so that fans can experience the Barclays Premier League on African soil. This will be a rare and thrilling experience which will allow us to give something back to our loyal and passionate customers who watch the games in their thousands every week but would not necessarily have had the opportunity to attend the match or rub shoulders with a star like Marcel."
Also known in football circles as 'Le Rock', Desailly is one of the most decorated footballers in the history of African football having won the World and UEFA Cups with France as well as being the first player to win the European Cup with different clubs in consecutive seasons. He played 222 times for Barclays Premier League side Chelsea, scoring seven goals and while at the club he won 74 international caps, a club record that has only recently been passed by Frank Lampard.
